I am working on bringing back the SLP iCARE (Citizens Advocating Resources for Education) group and one of the things I have discussed with other parents and community members is having a candidate forum for the School Board candidates. I would expect the questions at this forum to potentially be a little more specific than what you would hear at a League of Women Voters forum. I am currently finalizing the arrangements, but here are the tentative details:

Who: Parents, Community Members, Students, etc.
What: School Board Candidate Forum
When: Monday October 5th from 7:00 to 8:30 PM
Where: SLP High School Room C350
Why: To hear from and ask questions of SLP School Board candidates

Please let me know if you have any comments or questions.

Thanks,
Joe Tatalovich

Three reports with huge implications for education in Minnesota.

The Lost Decade
The way Minnesota has responded to fiscal challenges in this decade raises questions about our commitment to public investment. What is the status of Minnesota’s investments in some of the areas important to the well-being of its residents and ensuring that all have the opportunity to succeed? Katherine Blauvelt, Minnesota Budget Project

Kitchen Table Budget Principles
Conversations from rural, suburban and urban communities outline the values and principles Minnesotans use to balance their own budgets in tough times. Their wisdom is tailored for lawmakers as they face this year’s budget decisions for the state. Jermaine Toney, Organizing Apprenticeship Project

Smart Investments in Minnesota’s Students
Economists, business leaders and educators agree that Minnesota’s relative prosperity over the past quarter century has been driven largely by our investment in human capital. Strengthening Minnesota’s economy will require new investment in Minnesota’s students. How do we do it wisely and cost-effectively? Angie Eilers, Growth & Justice
