A 20% Wind Vision: A Kansas Opportunity

As part of the President's State of the Union address in 2007, he proposed renewable or wind energy to provide 20% of U.S. electricity needs by 2030, securing America?s leadership in reliable, clean energy technology. As an inexhaustible and affordable domestic resource, wind strengthens our country's energy security, improves the quality of the air we breathe, slows climate change, and revitalizes rural communities. Learn about wind development in Kansas and the potential economic and environmental benefits it can bring to the State. According to a 2002 study by the United States Public Interest Research Group (PIRG), Kansas ranks number one in the potential for wind resources in the U.S. Find out how our state ranks with other states, explore a Kansas wind resources wind map, and learn about the challenges the State faces in building the infrastructure (transmission) to support the development of wind energy. This class will be offered twice, once during the day and once in the evening to allow all interested people to attend.

Jim Ploger: Climate & Energy Programs Manager, Kansas Corporation Commission. Jim has been with the Kansas Energy Office at the Kansas Corporation Commission since 1991. As the Manager of Climate & Energy Programs, he administers the U.S. Department of Energy?s State Energy Program for Kansas. The office is the lead state agency for alternative fuel vehicle programs. Also included are renewable energy programs for biomass, solar and wind energy resources, energy education, energy building codes and standards education and training programs, and energy efficiency programs for all levels of government, residential housing, commercial businesses and industry.

This class is offered twice on Monday March 31st. You may choose the time that fits your life. Class session A: 1:30 to 3:00 PM. Class session b: 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
