Home energy performance depends on a number of factors including the quality of the building shell, the efficiency of the mechanical systems and occupant behavior. All of the factors are subject to a basic understanding of how heat, air and moisture move in houses. Most of us, including homebuilders, don?t have a very good understanding of building science. We build and rehab houses that have ?common-practice? flaws that reduce energy performance. This presentation will reveal common energy performance flaws and provide a basic understanding of building science that will help you improve the energy performance of your house.

Russ Rudy has built new Energy Star rated houses and completed energy and environmentally appropriate performance renovation of existing houses; he has been recognized for excellence in historic preservation. Russ has been a pioneer in home energy efficiency and weatherization working in or founding many of the state programs in Kansas. Russ hosted the weekly Home Energy Doctor call-in radio show on KCMO Radio and worked as the Housing Programs Director for the Harvest America Corporation serving Kansas City, Kansas and 26 counties in the southwest quarter of the state of Kansas. Russ currently manages the Buildings Team for the Kansas Energy Office (KEO).
