This is a regular monthly meeting of the BBOE. As usual, a good turnout from our group is needed in order to bring attention to important issues impacting our schools. SOme topics to raise during Q & A: The November 8th letter from Dr. McGeehan and Ellen O'Connor regarding test scores, and the designation of the Bayonne School District as District in Need of Improvement. What specific actions will be taken to address this issue. The irregularities of enforcement of the mandatory uniform policy. Revision to uniform policy regarding outerwear. Backpack weight - suggest forming a committee to study in cooperation with the BBOE. This an issue where can find common ground as it affects our children's health and well-being Miscellaneous topics?

ALL: The meeting for tomorrow night, November 16th at 7PM has been cancelled and rescheduled for Tuesday, November 21st. The reason for the change is that there are several schools holding Open Houses in Bayonne at eh same time, making it impossible for many of our memebers to attend. Given the fact that this is the most important meeting we will have to this point, we are interested in having as many of you participate as possible. We have not yet confirmed a location for this meeti, as the library had no availability. I have called Robert's Cafe and am waiting for a response from them, but if anyone else can help with these arrangements, it would be much appreciated. Event Description: The main purpose of this meeting will be to discuss exactly what the judge's decision means for our efforts, and to determine what/when/if next steps will be taken. The administrative law judge made a PRELIMINARY decision, and in effect, has pushed this matter to the next level to rule on the 90 day requirement for our petition. SInce there were no sanctions or penalties attached to the uniform policy until the BBOE added them on 8/29, we could not have made a decision to petition the court since from 6/19 - 8/29 we had no idea what, if any, the penalties would be. In other words, it was not a policy but merely an amendment to the dress code up until that point. When we learned of the sanctions after the 8/29 meeting, we began our efforts to raise funds and engage attorneys to file the petition. The transcripts support our argument in a VERY strong way. The granting of the restraining order for the Gagliardi's is a positive indication of the court's empathy for our basic argument that the sanctions are wrong and not being applied equitably. Karin Morgen will be present at this meeting and will answer all questions as well as explain what the next steps are. If at all possible, I urge you to attend this most important meeting. Once again, we will be requesting a $5 donation to the legal fund if you attend this meeting. Thank you, laurie

Regular monthly meeting of the BBOE. Last week's meeting was a caucus that was not "public". This information was not available to us, and furthermore it was posted in the BCN as a regular meeting. Please see my posting this evening on the Message Board under, "Dwindling Legal Fund". It goes into detail about why it is so important for us to have representation at this meeting. It seems that they will be discussing, if not actually voting on an amendment to the policy that will impose further restrictions - this time on outerwear. A meeting at 8PM on Halloween poses a particular challenge for most of us. I do not know myself if I will be able to attend because of the personal commitments I have at home. If any of you do not have Halloween related activities or other conflicts, I am urging you to attend and challenge the board about the following issues during the Q&A period: 1) Outerwear 2) School pictures 3) Enforcement variations from one school to another: our own members have reported that each individual school is choosing to enforce on their own timetable, and according to the whims of their faculty and administration. This is not our imagination, we have proof. What is being done to protect our children from these abuses and inconsistencies, why are they occurring etc.? Please contact me directly with any questions. Thank you, laurie

This is a regular monthly meeting of the BBOE. Uniforms will most likely not be discussed due to the pending decision from the judge regarding the injunction. I am unable to attend as I will be away on business, but would appreciate it if we had as much representation from our group as possible. Thanks, Laurie

This is the regular monthly meeting. Since our teachers are working without a contract, I'm sure that this issue will be high on the agenda, as it should be. However, given the events of the past week, I am urging as many of you as possible to attend and express your views regarding the certificates, Dr. McGeehan's behavior, opting-out, uniform policing etc. We have seen very strong feelings about these issues expressed on our Message Board, but it is much more effective in a public forum with the media present. If child care is an obstacle to attending the meeting, please let me know and we will try to come up with some alternatives. Thanks, laurie

All: There is a BBOE meeting tomorrow night at BHS. The regular meeting starts at 8PM, however the public is welcome to attend the pre-meeting 'workshop" at 7PM. I think this is valuable because it gives us a more in depth idea of their agenda, and I think they should get accustomed to having an "audience" for this part of the evening. As always, a heavy turnout by our group is a good thing. Besides the disciplinary policy for the uniforms, we continue to have questions about the asbestos at #3, and it would not be inappropriate for us to raise the issue of trustee terms of office. I would encourage anyone who can, to attend this meeting. I will be there at 7PM. Thank you to our members who alerted us to this meeting! Regards, laurie
