Kathy,

My son was the one that didn't wear the uniform. The school district tried to make his life miserable for three years. They kicked him out of everything they could have. My son responded by earning the valedictorian for his school this year plus three academic awards and being accepted into High Tech and County Prep. He scored three perfect scores for Social Studies, Math, and English, a 98 for science and a 96 average for Reading for the year. We hated the Bayonne School district so much we wouldn't allow my child to test for the honors program because pigs would fly first. Guess what? They accepted him with out us applying or testing. I have been asked by more than one educator for the district why I wouldn't send my kid to Bayonne High. Hmm... High Tech top 5% in the nation, Bayonne High bottom 22% in the state. Hard choice. wink A friend of mine overheard the head of the music education giving either the principal or vice-principal the what-for for not getting my son to go to the High School with his music background. This is strange because she kicked him out of the band. He is a talented musician, but remember I am his dad. One of the school board members asked why my son was not going to the High school.

You ask why I won? After everything they did to him, he still beat them at their game.

Philly,

I'm proud that your son walked the hard walk. This district needs children like him. Unfortunately, high performers like him are alienated.

Its a sad thing.

Hopefully the new members of the BOE will be able to curtail waste and put focus back where it belongs (on ACADEMICS) while balancing the budget and power.

I remain hopeful for this coming year.
