You'll get invited to our Meetups as soon as they're scheduled!
Wow, I'm amazingly confused about how to start a meet-up and JUST realized I hadn't written a profile about what this potential group is about ;).
Well, I'm a grad. student signed up at a school in San Francisco and I need to write my MA Literature Review/thesis now...in Seattle. So, I'm in a unique position of not having any school support or peers from my school to work with, since I moved to Seattle a few months ago. On top of that, I took 7 years off school (for health-related issues) between my last class and.....now. So, I need to learn to think and write academically again, and spit out my literature review by the end of April. As an FYI, I have Fibromyalgia, which does affect my cognitive process (it's fondly and aptly called `brain fog'), so sometimes my writing may suck. Knowing that my writing may suck, sucks even more. Ironically, I'm a great proofreader...so that's what I'm `bringing to the table', as well as a never-ending fountain of British humour, otherwise known as sarcasm. ;)
Who are you?
Well, I'm hoping to gather other people who for some reason are not getting the support they need as far as starting/working on and/or completing their theses/dissertations... People who need and are willing to contribute to a group aimed at helping each other re: motivation and support.
Depending on our schedules, I'd like to set up regular weekdays when we would simply be working in the same cafe table...a place to show up, people to be accountable to.... I'd also like to set up one evening a week when we can do a `round table' and check in about how the last week went, ask questions if we're stuck and generally get additional support.
We will most likely all be at different stages in our `process', but every one of us is equally valuable to the group and will be valued for his/her unique talents and skills. So, please come, even if you think you have nothing to offer...because even if you are mainly asking questions, in trying to answer you we gain insight and clarity. Gawd that sounded cheesy.
Speaking of cheesy, if we could make these meetings as vegan and as scent-free as possible that would make them more inclusive, hence more `hip'. And `hip' is what we're striving for. Right? Right??? And of course, the more degrees we have the more `hip' we are too. ;)
